المسألة:
A thermodynamic cycle of a gas inside a piston/cylinder assembly consists of two processes; compression and expansion. The compression process occurs at a constant temperature during which the gas pressure (P) varies with volume (V) according to the ideal gas law given as
P = a /V
where a is a constant. When the gas is left to expand, P changes non-ideally with V according to the relationship
P = b –V
where a is a constant. The two-process cycle is shown in the figure below. Determine the net work produced by the cycle.

Project 4B
A cylindrical oil tank, lying on its side, is 6m long and 4m in diameter. The depth of oil in the tank is H. If the oil density is 860 kg/m3 what is the mass of oil in the tank?
Solve the problem using (a) polar coordinates and (b) Cartesian coordinates. Compare the answer in both cases.
